Profile
Kikuko Ogura was born in Iwate, Japan. She graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts and also completed graduate studies there. She furthered her studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, graduating with cum laude honors. She has performed in numerous programs presented by concert halls as well as at music festivals and on NHK's Classic Club, Pia no pia, Meikyoku tantei Amadeus and La la la classic, and she also serves as an instructor on NHK's Culture radio geijutsu no miryoku - Mozart ga deatta ongakukatachi. Her recordings and concerts presented by the Hamamatsu Museum of Musical Instruments are also highly acclaimed. She has released over 40 CDs, many of which have been selected for recommendation or best disc by newspapers such as the Asahi Shimbun, Mainichi Shimbun and Yomiuri Shimbun and magazines such as Record Geijutsu. Her written works include Karaa zukai piano no rekishi (Kawade Shobo Shinsha), and she has co-authored and supervised the development of numerous other works. She has served as a part-time instructor in the Tokyo University of the Arts Department of Early Music since 2004. She is the producer of Fortepiano Academy Sacla. She is currently engaged in performances for her Mozart's Clavier Room concert series.

Kikuko Ogura studied at the Music High School Attached to the Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts and subsequently at the university itself, and latergraduated ‘cum laude’ from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She won 1st prize at the Japan Mozart Piano Competition (piano category), and 1st prizes in the ensemble section and fortepiano section as well as the audience prize at the Bruges International Early Music Competition. She has made many appearance on television and radio, in programs such as ‘Classic Club’, ‘La La La ♪ Classic’, ‘Pianopia’, ‘Culture Radio, the Appeal of Art’ etc. Her more than fifty CDs have been highly recommended by newspapers and music magazines such as ‘Record Geijutsu’. Other awards and prizes include the Grand Prize in the Record Category of the National Arts Festival 2012, Music Pen Club Japan Award (Classical instrumental/vocal section), and an honorable mention in the JXTG Music Awards (western music section). She is the author of ‘An Illustrated History of the Piano’ (Kawade Shobō Shinsha), and has edited the critical edition of “Giustini: Twelve Sonatas” Volumes I and II (Edition Kawai), and a collection of sonatinas entitled ‘Raccolta di Sonatine’ (Ongaku-no-Tomo Sha Corp). She staged forty concerts in the series ‘Kikuko Ogura’s Mozart Klavier Room’, served on the juries of the 86th to 88th Music Competition of Japan and is at present undertaking a Hokutopia series entitled ‘A Classical Journey with Kikuko Ogura’. The series ‘Kikuko Ogura – the World of the Fortepiano’ was launched in 2020. She is the producer of the Fortepiano Academy SACLA and is at present a part-time lecturer at the Tokyo University of the Arts.
